Delete Your Ceru Account
Last updated: August 2, 2026
This page explains how to request deletion of your Ceru account and the data associated with it. Ceru is developed by Av Studio Devs.
Option 1 — Delete your account in the app (recommended)
You can permanently delete your account directly from within the app:
- Open the Ceru app and sign in.
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm your identity — enter your password, or sign in again with Apple or Google if that is how you signed up.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
Your account and personal data are deleted immediately once confirmed. Deletion cannot be undone, and the account cannot be restored afterwards.
Option 2 — Request deletion by email
If you cannot access the app, email us from the address associated with your account:
We will verify ownership of the account and complete the deletion within 30 days of the request.
What data is deleted
When your account is deleted, we permanently remove:
- Your account record and sign-in credentials — email address, display name and user ID. You can no longer sign in, and signing up again creates an entirely new account.
- Your profile photo and the receipt images you uploaded.
- Comments you wrote and your entries in group activity feeds.
- Your budgets, recurring expense templates and pending invitations.
- Your push notification tokens, notification settings and usage counters.
What data is kept, and why
Ceru records money owed between people, so an expense you entered is also a record of what somebody else owes. Deleting it outright would silently change the balances of everyone you shared a group with. Instead, in each group you were a member of, you are replaced by an anonymous placeholder shown as "Deleted user".
- Expenses, shares and settlements in your groups stay, so the remaining members' balances stay correct — but they are attributed to that placeholder and no longer to you.
- The placeholder carries no personal data: no name, no email address, no photo. It exists only inside the group it was created for, and a separate one is created for each group, so nothing links your former groups to each other or back to you.
- Anonymous, aggregated crash and diagnostic logs (which do not identify you) may be retained for app stability.
- Records we are required to keep for legal or accounting obligations, where applicable, are retained only for the legally required period and then deleted.
If you want your expenses removed from a group as well, delete them or leave the group before deleting your account.
Retention period
Personal data tied to your account is deleted immediately for in-app deletions, or within 30 days for email requests. Backups containing residual copies are purged within 90 days.
For more information about how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
